The canal-facing façade is notable for its attractive architectural symmetry. From the outside, 5 Keizers appears to be five individual adjoining buildings, each with its own elegant entrance. But behind the grand historic façade is a revelation: a single building offering almost 15,000 sq m of modern high-end office space.
- Sophisticated modern offices
5 Keizers sets a new standard for canal-side city working. The office space was extensively refurbished between 2014 and 2016 by renowned Amsterdam-based architects Dam & Partners. The entire structure of the buildings was transformed into a high-end flexible office development that encourages collaboration, meeting today’s individual and corporate needs. Its large floor plates are unique and highly efficient.
- Stylish central spaces
The imposing new central lobby of number 281 is a stunning testament to the quality and prestige of 5 Keizers, where the sophisticated ambience and warm welcome at reception are more akin to an upmarket boutique hotel than an office lobby. Two passenger lifts serve all floors. There are several further entrances, lifts and staircases to serve the tenants.
Canal-house style garden
5 Keizers’ 800 sq m courtyard garden is a hidden gem of cultural and historical significance. Redeveloped as a “canal-house” style garden, the tiered landscaping and sleek lines encapsulate the “old meets new” concept in a green oasis of serenity and elegance. Sustainability was explicitly taken into account during refurbishment of the building, with its specification contributing to an energy-efficient building.
- With its “A” energy performance rating, the building boast a modern, high standard of energy efficiency.
- All windows have been fitted with modern window frames and blank solar control glazing.
- On all sides, the windows are equipped with individual automatic exterior sun blinds.
- Energy-efficient lighting and motion-detection lighting systems are installed.
- A large indoor bicycle parking space for 530 bicycles at ground level is available to tenants.
Originally built as merchants’ houses in the 17th century.
As the houses were heavily neglected, they were demolished in 1955. Keizersgracht 271–275 was rebuilt by insurer Nederlandsche Credietverzekering Maatschappij.
Keizersgracht 277 was demolished and rebuilt by Nederlandsche Credietverzekering Maatschappij.
Keizersgracht 281, 285 and 287 were rebuilt by Nederlandsche Credietverzekering Maatschappij and the five buildings were connected to each other.
The buildings were extensively redeveloped by COD, an Amsterdam-based Dutch property developer.
The main entrance at number 281 was redeveloped into a boutique-style lobby and the garden at the rear was recreated.
